Description

The Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University is making available scholarships for all international and U.S. applicants admitted to the Masters of Public Health (MPH) program for AY 2019. The admission application serves as the scholarship application.

Consideration for scholarships will be merit-based and it is important that the candidates have excellent academic records, a strong professional background, and leadership potential in the public health field. All full-time, part-time and online students are eligible, but non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships.

Online and part-time students will be considered for the Welch Scholarship, Endowed Funding and the Bloomberg Fellowship. Full-time students will be considered for the Bloomberg Fellowship, Sommer Scholars Program, Reed Frost Scholarship and Endowed Student Funding.

Benefits

Bloomberg Fellows will receive a scholarship that covers all tuition and fees, and a stipend of approximately US$10,000 to defray a portion of living expenses and travel.The scholarship is structured as a grant that converts to a loan, with a standard repayment term of 10 years and a modest interest rate, if the terms of the Fellowship are not met.

The Welch Scholarship is for tuition costs.

Endowed scholarship funding for online/part-time students of the MPH program ranges from US$5,000 to US$15,000, to be used toward the first year of the program, whilst endowed scholarship funding for full-time students ranges from US$5,000 to full scholarships (10 to 15 endowed scholarships are available for AY 2019 for full-time students).

The Reed Frost Scholarship provides for tuition fees, from US$20,000 to US$30,000, and 10 to 15 awards are available.

Twelve Sommers Scholarship awards will be given, and each award covers full tuition and provides for a living stipend.

Eligibility

All students applying for the Masters of Public Health (MPH) program for AY 2019 are eligible for the scholarships. Those applying to the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree are also eligible for the Bloomberg Fellows Program. Applicants must apply in partnership with the organizations for which they work. Following graduation, Bloomberg Fellows will work for at least 1 year for their organizations, putting their new skills to use. Those who are applying to become Bloomberg Fellows must be individuals who are currently working in the U. S. with organizations in the areas of:

• Addiction and Overdose
• Environmental Challenges
• Obesity and the Food System
• Risks to Adolescent Health and/or
• Violence.

All new online/part-time MPH students will be awarded the Welch Scholarship.

Those eligible for the Sommer Scholars Program are students with the potential to be the public health heroes of the future. They have to submit a statement upon application, detailing how they have taken advantage of the leadership development opportunities they have had, and how have they have shaped them. They also have to describe the most significant achievement of their life. Sommer Scholars are people with innate leadership skills in diverse areas including, but not necessarily limited to, public health. The program welcomes students from all backgrounds who want to make a difference by leveraging their previous professional experience to shape the public health policy of the future. Sommer Scholars may be writers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, politicians, business executives, journalists, engineers, financial analysts, economists and others who want to make a difference in the world.

Application

Those who wish to apply for the Bloomberg Fellowship must apply online for the MPH program and the fellowship by the priority application deadline of 1 November 2018 or by the final deadline of 1 December 2018. To be considered for all the other scholarships, applications for the MPH program for June 2019 matriculation must be done online by 1 December 2018.
