The American Center will host five-week discussion sessions for the MOOC Camp English for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Fields. Offered by University of Pennsylvania and funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of English Language Programs, this course is designed for non-native English speakers who are interested in improving their English skills in the sciences. In this course, you will explore some of the most innovative areas of scientific study, while expanding your vocabulary and the language skills needed to share scientific information within your community.

• Session 1: Wednesday, November 28, 5:00-7:00pm (Is the Earth Getting Warmer?)
• Session 2: Wednesday, December 5, 5:00-7:00pm (The Greenhouse Effect)
• Session 3: Wednesday, December 19, 5:00-7:00pm (The Impacts of Climate Change on our World)
• Session 4: Wednesday, December 26, 5:00-7:00pm (Discovering Cleaner Energy Sources to Power the World)
• Session 5 & Closing: Wednesday, January 2, 5:00-7:00pm (What Might the Future Hold?)

For participants who would like to receive a certificate of completion from the American Center HCMC, kindly follow these steps:

1. Sign up for a free Coursera account at https://www.coursera.org

2. Please visit English for STEM Fields at https://www.coursera.org/learn/stem. To enroll in this course for free, click on “Enroll now” and then select "Full Course. No certificate."

3. Once enrolled, participants will get access to the course syllabus, online materials and quizzes.

4. Watch all video lectures before attending each discussion session at the American Center and complete all the exercises/quizzes of each week lesson.

5. Attend all weekly discussions at the American Center HCMC.

6. Send an email with the subject “MOOC English for STEM” to [email protected] by 12:00am on December 27, 2018. Include the following information in your email:

(a) your full name (if you're Vietnamese please indicate your name with tone marks) 
(b) your ID number (CMND)
(c) proof of your completion of the online course. Simply take a screenshot of your Coursera MOOC online completion confirmation with your name and the course name on it. This is free of charge.

No late submissions will be accepted. We will not respond to email that does not include all the above required information.

Notes:

(*) Entrance to the events will be closed at 5:30pm or as soon as we reach the room capacity.

(**) Children under 15 years old are not allowed to attend this MOOC Camp at the American Center.
